Plants Updated

So the seeds I've planted have begun to sprout! hooray!

actually they've sprout a few days ago.  It's surprising to see that after waiting a few weeks for the seeds to germinate, once the first spout emerges, they explode in growth, literally growing a little bit visibly every day (*so everyday I get to see the changes)

I hope to be able to post some pictures of my little garden ASAP.


Just yesterday I cut a bit of the Basil I was growing to add to my sandwich, it is quite rewarding to be able to use what you've grown and be able to literally taste the "fruits of your labour."

I think everyone should try it!

Gardening Expedition

It's been a long time since I blogged, so I thought I'd drop a quick blog on my new hobby of choice.

As the title would imply I am trying to grow my own garden and I've started with some herbs (basil, sweet basil and thyme) along with a hot chili plant.

I've also started growing from seed a few easy beginner plants like peas, edamame, zucchini, snap peas and marigolds.


It's been a bit overwhelming with the new info but fun to read up on instructables in creating garden stuff. One that I plan to use is the "Ghetto Greenhouse" with the use of 2L bottles.  It's interesting that the planting of Marigolds (flowers) prevents certain pests from attacking vegetables like zucchini and squashes.

I am excited and I hope I get some sprouts soon!

Trip South and the Poor Man's trip to Hawaii

So it's been a long time since I've last posted on the blog, and I think that everyone who blogs can relate.  It's pretty hard to blog about stuff, unless you're a fountain of weird and interesting ideas or some party/food fanatic that visits new and different places on a daily basis.

Unfortunately I am not one of them, but at least this blog I can post a bit of what's new with me.

So a few days ago my girlfriend and I went down to the States for a bit of walking around and shopping (standard stuff).  I don't know about other people, but I've become a big fan of the big stores down in the States like Target and Fred Meyer (we had clam chowder and corn dogs for breakfast) <-- love the retro-ness of corndogs, it brings me back to the one time I had it as a child.

The morning of, I thought to check out whether there were any close Triple D's (Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives show on Food Network) reviewed locations.  I honestly hate and love watching that show, because all it features is a guy named Guy who goes around eating all the best of the bad-for-you foods.

The closest location I could find for our trip was 'Bobby's Hawaiian  Style Restaurant.'  For those who are familiar with the show, Bobby's was not one of the regular types of food places featured since most of the joints shown are burger type joints.

I thought it would be a good idea to try something different from our usual (which is usually Outback Steakhouse, which has an awesome 26 oz. Steak known as the Melbourne) and try some Hawaaiian food.

I must say the food was good, but not wholly 'new' to my surprise.

We had the Hawaiian Sampler platter whcih had Kalua pig, LauLau (pork wrapped in Taro leaves), Lomi Salmon (fresh salmon and tomatoe salad likened to a salsa) and Poke (Raw cubes of Ahi Tuna marinated in Soy sauce) with Spam Musubi (its a Spam sushi).

As you might guess from the Poke description, why I wasn't too surprised with the Hawaiian style food with my Asian background.

What was surprising to me was that 'Hawaiian food' is so strongly influenced by 'Japanese/Asian food.' The Kalua pork was just  pulled pork and the LauLau reminded both my girlfriend and I of the Asian Pork and Vegetable soup we regularly have at home.  Not to say the food wasn't good, but I was expecting the food to be 'different' from my norm, which in that respects kind of disappointed. 

Aside from that I can say I've tried some Hawaiian food, but I would still like to be able to one day go to Hawaii and enjoy a traditional luau.

Losing Steam Already?

Not a New Post...but for Completeness Sake

I'd like to point out that this is a post I made quite a few days ago in response to the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Japan on March 11, 2011.

I initially thought I would start my blogging adventure on Tumblr and this was the 1st post, but as I think I will be using Blogger instead, I wanted to consolidate it in for completeness.
